The Mesquite Department of Parks and Recreation put on their annual fireworks display in honor of our great countries Independence Day. As a father of three young children I am used to the ooo’s and aahh’s that go with the fireworks; however, this year all I heard from my kids was, “Lame.” Whoever came up with the idea of putting on the entire 20 minute fireworks show in only 4 minutes made a huge mistake. The 20 minute show that was given last year was very enjoyable and it had a great finale that the kids truly enjoyed, and this year we had basically a four minute finale and no show. All three kids came away saying it was lame and did not satisfy them. The illegal fireworks going on around the park in the private neighborhoods were almost a better show than what the Mesquite Department of Parks and Recreation put on for us.
I used a Canon EOS 50D body with a Tamron 17-35mm lens. I used anywhere from 5sec exposure to 30 second exposure times with a small aperature around f/11-17. Please visit our Gallery to view more photos taken at the festivities.

The Mesquite Kids On Stage group is working on their rendition of Disney’s The Jungle Book at the Mesquite Community Theater. I had the great pleasure of shooting some photos of one of their “play practices.” The kids were a great joy to watch and I think this play is going to be great! Performances will be held on July 9, 10, and 11. Some of these photos were displayed in the Desert Valley Times in Mesquite, Nevada.
We at Winn Photography are very excited about shooting the cast and individual photos for this performance, which should happen sometime in the next week or so. More play practice photos can be viewed in our online Gallery and proofs for the cast and individual photos will be made available for re-order and add-on orders online as well.

The Virgin Valley Elementary School Choir began the year with only fourth and fifth grade students, but after the Christmas holiday the numbers in the choir dropped off and some of the third grade students were invited to join the choir for their annual Patriotic Performance named “Americans We” this year.
They sang several patriotic songs like “Americans We”, “Oh, I love America”, “We the People” and many more. The “Battle Hymn for Gettysburg” rendition adapted by Teresa Jennings, had several speakers talking throughout the song. It was very well done!
The performance ended with “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood. While the choir sang their hearts out there was a slide show that ran on the large screen with several images of soldiers from the First World War to present. Several patriotic images of our country were also displayed including the Twin Towers. It was very heart felt!
Some of the photos taken at this event did make the school section of the Desert Valley Times in Mesquite Nevada. More photos can be seen and purchased in our Gallery.

I had the pleasure of shooting some photos at the graduation ceremonies for the Sunshine Academy in Mesquite Nevada last Friday afternoon.
Captured here are the two classes, Miss Debbie’s class on the right and Miss Janeece’s class on the left. The ceremony was great as the kids showed the audience some of the things they learned this year such as, Itsy Bitsy Spider sung in Spanish, counting to 30, the “Alphabet Song”, and the “Growing Song.”
The cerimony ended with each child recieving their certificate for completeing pre-school successfully. They are truely prepared for their kindergarten year.
More photos can be seen in our Gallery. Photos can be purchased from our Gallery by registering a User Account and ordering them through the Gallery.

Mater ‘O’ holds a board for Krysten and Wilson to perform a front snap kick to complete their yellow belt tests.
All the students at class completed testing for their next belt advancement. Most of the students needed to break boards to complete their tests.

I had the great pleasure of watching my son participate in Baseball for the first time last night. The Mesquite Recreation Center has started their annual Youth Baseball that will run six weeks. I was very surprised at how well Wilson did considering that he never even touched a bat or glove until last night. All the kids were amazing! No score was kept, the kids are being taught the most important part of sports; It is all about having fun! Looking forward to getting lots of great actions shots during the next six weeks of baseball.

Day 3 started the same as the other two days with warm-ups and laps. Rick Upchurch then broke the kids up into three on three teams and worked all the skills the kids learned the day before.
The best part of the day was the last game where the youth played a basketball game against the coaches and parents. The youth won the game with a final score of 26-22.
The day ended with every participant receiving a basketball, certificate by Rick and Donna Upchurch, and a card for one free scoop of ice cream at Baskin Robins; after which everyone got pizza served from Little Caesars Pizza.
The camp was a success and I look forward to the next camp—Football/Cheer Camp in May—where Rick will teach the youth all the essentials for Football and the Basics. As well as, good nutrition, being a part of something good, and to watch out for your family and community.
